Description

This work was inspired by the research of Pierre Boudon in the area of cognitive science. At present, the research consists of the elaboration of elementary structures which permit the articulation of a Leibniz-inspired theory of knowledge. More specifically, the project was generated by a reflection on the relationship of reciprocity that defines apperception between figure and background.

The project seeks to take a distance from the pervasive media presence which permeates our daily lives. Suspended between the two sides of a small Venetian canal, the pavilion - a habitable camera obscura - proposes a very simple and elementary sensorial experience consisting of a progressive immersion into a space of black light. This architectural device allows a passerby to regain contact with the capacity of invention and wonderment that is inscribed at the heart of our apperception of places.

The "initiatory" journey within the pavilion extends through five stages of sensory experience localized between two architectural exhibits that are identical and spatially reciprocal:
- The first stage unfolds in the penumbra: the notion of halo being a category located between notions of relief and background.
- The second stage emerges in a bath of black light: an emptiness or blank defining the absolute limit between notions of hollow and background.
- The third stage allows the seizing of a vertical flow of light: an umbilical light between the sky and the canal.
- The fourth stage establishes an in-between: in the act of perception, a principle of reversibility exists between notions of belief and hollow.
- The fifth stage enables perceptual transgression: it plays on the synaesthetic reciprocity between form and filiform figures (edges) and enveloping figures.
