Tectonic kinetics

The Champ de Mars, a place of passage of horizons between the recent and the ancient city, a place of vertical connection between underground Montreal and the zenith, revisits the various states of potential appropriation of users as they move. The movement of bodies through the spaces illustrates the community desired to reconnect solitudes. Through movement, users experience a transition magnified by the composition of this new kinetic topography.

The jury chose this proposal because of the work on the topography, which offers a variety of pathways from the Champ-de-Mars metro station to the Place-d'Armes metro station. We also appreciate the judicious implantation of the buildings in the western part of the site, which frame and redefine the blocks. An evaluation of the impact of the views on Mount Royal should obviously be made, as the buildings along Viger Avenue seemed a bit high. The continuation of the project beyond Saint-Laurent Boulevard to the Palais des congrès, combined with the development of continuous roofs, results in the creation of a new series of monumental doors on Saint-Laurent Boulevard.
