Description

SITE: VANCOUVER

When John Lennon exclaimed "Come Together" it was not a naive sentiment - it is, instead, the action central to being human! To this end, we propose to "publicize" the private ... eliminate the hallway! ... talk and cook with your neighbours! ... share space! We suggest that "Social Housing" might be expereinced not just as living in the city, but living with the city!

"PUBLI_CITY" is an architectual hybrid; we imagine a possibilitiy generated through the combination of a linear public space (connecting two socially disparate but geographically immediate urban places) and the main circulation space of a Social Housing/Market Housing project. From a single unit to the building as a whole, "PUBLI_CITY" celebrates the dislocation of the "private" into the "public" and vice-versa. The project proposes new socially inclusive spaces that respond to emerging sociocultural trends, and challenge conventional notions of public and private space.
