The Spiral
is both picture and experience.
Our visitor is stopped at the edge of a water basin, a still surface reflecting the sky with nymphea odorata scenting the air. In the artificial pond he can make out an object polished and bend metal beams form a round enclosure.
Strangely out of place in this idyllic setting a round chair with rotating handles is placed at the edge of the basin. Taking a closer look the visitor sits down, moves the handles and glides forward. He could stop now, go back - or give in to the experience of the passage and go on.
While the route remains invisible the passenger is exposed on his journey. This slight irritation enhances the attention for the atmosphere of the garden: the light, the scent and the feel of the air over water. Entering the spiral he reaches a remote and solitary place of contemplation, sheltered from view and open only to the sky.
Though the passage itself can be observed, only braving the unkown can give you the full experience of The Spiral.
