[Void] topia
City as the main type of habitation for the human is the place where we absorb our basic knowledge for existence - city symbolizes the new so-called Laws of Nature which we have to adapt with. The relation between human and nature is in constant change, it is influenced by this system of habitation. Urban voids are the places where new nature emerges. They are the urban negatives - pure areas which are open for new interpretations. They are the laboratories of transformation and new thoughts. We wish to take this new ideal into the garden context. The garden seeks for ideals, ideals that are reflected in the society, it looks for an ideal nature. [Void] topia is a provocation. The ideal of the new urban nature transformed into the garden context raises a question but doesn't give an answer. It is a utopia because beyond the material world the main aim of the design is to move towards the conceptual. [Void] topia is one of the directions towards which the art of the garden can head. It reflects the inner echo of the landscape in a broader sense and reacts to the needs of society. Can we see beauty behind low maintenance and few resources? Can this be the new paradise? [Void] topia takes the negative and turns it into a positive.
A piece is cut out from an existing void without any cosmetic intervention, flowers are seeded instead. The piece is taken to the garden - a boarder is made by a fence which creates seclusion and security. The fence is covered with mirrors and posters with texts which reflect the ideals of the project and urge people to think about the meanings and expressions of the garden. They reflect the nature of this landscape and create illusions. There are paths that pass through the garden that will be established and worn in by the first visitors themselves - just like on wastelands where there are no rules. The paths will be marked after. There are stopping spots inside the vegetation, where the person can sit and think about the surrounding and the garden. There are flowers sown here and there to domesticate the place. [Void] topia doesn't give a solid solution, it shows the direction and asks further, what is the paradise of the new era.
