An American dream
Many immigrants come to America in search of a better life-a life that is unattainable in their home country. This garden is an attempt to recreate a cliché, if not romanticized, vision of this American dream. The obvious planting material would be corn given it's abundance in the American agricultural landscape. The garden is surrounded by a security fence to protect these crops, while a raised structure provides a viewing platform to look across the land. The structure would appear to float atop of the corn field, and symbolizes a sense of arrival or control over the land-perhaps success. People can enter the structure easily from one end, or through a winding path through the field. The path allows people to feel fully immersed in the crops and opens up to a larger space at the foot of the structure. As the son of an immigrant, it is sort of my satirical celebration of this country I call home.
