Eat your friends
With culinary adventure as our call to action, we envi¬sion a paradise where invasive species rouse both affec¬tion and hunger. Eat Your Friends will consist of a dense planting of garlic mustard destined for harvest and pro¬cessing in a small onsite kitchen. Garlic mustard, which was imported by early British colonists as a culinary herb, now figures on Canada's list of invasive species. This relative of broccoli and kale is high in vitamin C and iron, and as one of its nicknames, "sauce-alone," would suggest, it's delicious! Over the course of two summers, we propose regular guided workshops in which partici¬pants will befriend, harvest, and process garlic mustard plants in the kitchen, at eye-level with the plants out¬side. Taking cues from the local and slow food move¬ments, we have created a series of tantalizing recipes featuring garlic mustard. Once per summer, we will host a full gourmet feast on the festival site.
