Eden's enigma
Perhaps the most iconic representation of paradise is the classic narrative of paradise lost: Adam and Eve's expulsion from the Garden of Eden. This is the `genesis' of our thesis; paradise is illusory and our society has expelled itself from the natural garden through it's disconnect from nature.
Our garden celebrates the apple. The apple comes from the rose family. Like the apple throughout history, it both tempts and sustains.
We use the apple as a metaphor representing paradise, temptation and our species' ongoing disassociation with the natural environment. Hunan co-evolution with the apple has altered its genetic make-up and caused its global distribution.
The sculptural component is an allusion to the interior structure of the apple flower, the approximately 7,500 global apple cultivars and the notion that while we strive to reach unattainable visions, a natural, balanced paradise can reveal itself on its own terms
