Plotting the labyrinth
Labyrinth is a game, a landscape strategy that hybridizes hardscape and vegetation, pathway and garden bed. It is a modular topography of embedded velocities carved by the movement of bodies in space. Eddies amidst these flowing vectors become moments of stasis: vegetated islands for repose and sensory stimulation. Planted solely with fragrant and edible herbs, the garden suggests spatial and sensorial realms beyond its plotted dimensions. Clouds of aroma bloom, waft, mingle, and dissipate, and the scented wakes of past visitors linger as perfumed trails. Ambiguities between figure and ground, pathways and plantings, provide an intensive field of play: play between the five senses, as well as between visitors in the garden.
