The moment we recognize beauty, we experience a moment in paradise. Beauty in nature is ever-present, but we often neglect to notice it. A shift in our attention arrives when our perceptions are destabilized. In this transformative moment, we recalibrate our perceptions to appreciate beauty once again and are transported to paradise.
In the context of Reford Gardens, an already idyllic planted environment, we propose transforming and amplifying familiar garden elements into that surprising brush with paradise. Potted creates an undulating landscape from a grid of ordinary, stacked nursery pots of varying height that you walk on, in and through. Plants at the top of each stack create a rolling meadow with a blend of colour, scent and texture.
Potted lifts the individual, manufactured plants out of the ground, revealing the process and infrastructure of the garden's creation. The reconfiguration of these familiar elements creates a sensuous experience of paradise revealed.
