Rhizosphere/troposphere
Paradise is a garden that mends the follies of man.
rhizosphere troposphere invites visitors into a pucker in the landscape - a pocket of space formed by 'delamination' of the ground plane from soifs below. Above (troposphere), the site presents a lush, exuberant catalog of plants for a phytoremediation garden experience; it contrasts typical homogeneous and culturally-unapproachable phytoremediation plots. Below (rhizosphere), a low, earthy space signais the importance of roots; here visitors absorb information about plants cataloged above and their targeted contaminants.
Known plant communities, such as savannah, gather in response to common physical constraints, plants for rhizosphere troposphere are gathered in response to a specific set of contaminants. For this demonstration, we've chosen the setofcontaminants found on the sites of former petrol stations. Probing one tough post-industrial question productively provokes more. While creating one small piece of paradise, we ask ourselves and visitors to consider the next: What would the garden community for sites of former dry cleaners, landfills, and scrap metal yards look like?
