The aim of an Agriculture Centre is to remain self-sustainable, while still interacting with the community downtown, in the heart of Vancouver.
In addition to the Centre's own source of biomass, it also takes in the neighbourhood biowaste to
a) generate enough power to sustain the site, and
b) grow produce thats locally accessible.
Biomass is the only renewable, widely distributed natural resource capable of supplying heat, steam and electric power as well as solid, liquid or gas-eous fuels. Through Vancouver's underground sewage system, the daily biowaste, including food and human waste in the downtown community, will be transported by pressurized pumps to its manure storage. The biomass will then proceedto the Anaerobic digesters (AD) to generate its own heat and electricity necessary for the greenhouse's agricultural production.
Along with the produces from the greenhouse, by-products from the process of AD include, biodiesel and agriculture fertilizers, would contribute to the center's commercial activities at the corner ofStation Street.
