Promiscuous Engagements
The increasing development of the city introduces new perspectives of urban life. As the downtown core of many major cities grow, the ideas of density need to continually transform. At the moment, the proto-type of podium tower creates a landscape of private pillars leaving the public sector squandering the remains of the ground/street level. This lay-out leaves little interaction and engagement between the inhabitants and the users which should exist in neighbourhoods. A structure that can accommodate and integrate private and public together is fundamental in creating the new idea ofthe urban neighbourhood.
Our proposal attempts to understand the current conditions of the city and integrate appropriate moves that will encourage a unique growth of interaction between inhabitants and users of the neighbourhood. Some of the principal ideas include introducing a mid-level public scape, continuous circulation and connections between the different neighbourhoods in the downtown core, vertical parceling of property and programs, and recognizing and preserving characteristics of existing neighbourhoods. With these ideas we begin to provide innovative architectural and programmatic opportunities, including more open public space, local densification, dynamic neighbourhood connections and diverse programmatic relationships.
An infrastructure for future growth is inherent with these ideas. We recognized the flexibility of the structure as well as the need to captivate the characteristics of the existing neighbourhoods. Additionally it is most important that we create a space where inhabitants and the users can engage with each other and the landscape.
