Instead of destroying the viaducts, we transform them into the site of a great urban forest. Natural ecosystems are introduced above and below the viaducts, creating landmark public spaces. The roadways remain in use, reserved for transit and delivery vehicles. Keeping traffic above allows for pedestrian improvements on surface streets, while a new viaduct creates a fully developed bicycle highway. Infrastructure, transportation, and ecology form a harmonious, visually spectacular whole.
