Viaducts represent an opportunity to create new public spaces that can bring communities back together.
Viaducts represent not only a response for mobility, but also the opportunity to build new public spaces. Viaducts cannot be considered as barriers but as an integration space for communities.
Spaces under viaducts can be back to life if they area attractive spaces.
The concrete structures take new shapes: trees that can be designed by communities. Roads for walking, jogging and biking. New ground design, incorporation of fountains, recycling water and resources showing that public spaces are all over the cities.
This project is about re:connecting and re:covering spaces that are already there, that can be used by people.
Cities are growing; mobility is an issue we are all concerned about.
The amounts of vehicles demand new streets, new viaducts and new responses to their needs. When a new viaduct is build, we have a new delimitation of space, not only around but under them.
New spaces are generated and sometimes underestimated. The spaces that now are formed can be used. They can be public.
Communities appropriating and using this spaces is a way of bringing people back together.
Therefore, viaducts spaces are alive.
