Threshold - a modular landmark
The concept of the project can be understood as a threshold to the Green Line. By establishing two sculptural entrances a direct access is made available from the sidewalk to the hydro corridor. The design was envisioned to give prominence to the bridge and exploits its linking quality, that is why the invention respects the existing structure and, through it, offers a direct connection to the green line. Our strategy has been to gain space for the sidewalk in order to accommodate program, such as art galleries, cafes and administration offices. The sculptural entrances, the circulation of the project, and the program are consolidated in one module. This condition allows the project to be reproduced in diverse urban schemes across the Green Line Canada and E.U. The height of the new city landmarks will respond to the transmission tower height, creating a new skyline in the city of Toronto. The project serves as a convergent point between two urban areas divided by the bridge, which is until this moment a void in the city. With these thresholds we seek to activate and revitalize the immediate urban context, while giving another meaning to the bridge by unifying it with a recreational space.
