PUSH>PLAY exists at the intersection of a complex site. Millwoods Park has been developed over many years, surely a product of changing stakeholder needs and available funds. This project attempts ta stitch this fabric together and act as an armature for site uses, both current and future. The building finds a primary site axis of sports fields, running roughly southwest to northeast. and organizes the changerooms into wings that address the site's east and west precincts. The primary entry and public spaces face south to capture winter sunlight, while the building's entirety present adynamie form to the parking arrival area and the main thoroughfare at 23 Avenue to the south.
From the entry, visitors are greeted in the lobby by circulation to the west and north. To the west, the multipurpose room is oriented to the west and south, with a small courtyard to the north bordered bya planted green walL To the north, the main public washrooms and changerooms share a generous corridor. Integrated seating is included at strategie locations to create temporary spaces for occupation before and after games. or during public events.
The ''media wrap" envelopes the building and creates a habitable roofscape that provides vistas of the surrounding park. The site's relative flatness offers a vantage point to survey the landscape. Not only the sports fields but also the context it lies within. The media wrap is a multifunctional vehicle tor digital media. This element is capable of aggregated video data captured at the sports fields to display imagery trom the games, act as a scoreboard, or be programmed by digital media artists that will create a rotating library of artistic installations. Replaying summer footage in
winter on a six-month offset can offer a reminder of warmer times du ring even the harshest. snowiest days.
While the building has generally been conceived as a whole, the program has been deployed to accommodate a phased construction process. The central building elements comprise the city-funded part of the project (Phase 1). The user-group funded portion (Phase 2) would then be added as east and west wings along with the media wrap and green roof.
