The project is based on a principle of primary axes, the "cardo" and the "decamanus".
Transposed to the project, these two axes become the axis of unveiling, linking the Faculty to the rest of the University Campus, and the axis of light where a void should be formed, a space that favors exchanges between the various departments and that expresses a dynamic characteristic of the activity of the Faculty. This characteristic void of the axis of light is materialized by a "fault", a kind of glazed interstitial space typical of the work of Saia Barbarese. On both sides of this "fault" are placed the different departments in connection with each other.
In terms of landscaping, this project is inspired by geomorphology, proposing a landscape that refers to the mountain through its materiality. The landscape is thus imagined as a series of disjointed slabs sliding against each other and sloping to magnify the natural slope of the site. In addition, a deliberately structured vegetation was chosen, following a monochromatic logic in order to underline the poetic expression of the slides, fractures and misalignments.

« The jury appreciated the work done on the landscaping and saw it as the supporting element of the project. The architecture frames the space well and allows for a mastery of the landscape which is treated in a simple but new way. The jury appreciated the poetic play of plates, faults and vegetation, as well as the boldness of the approach. It regrets, however, that the basic ideas were poorly translated into architecture, that the vocabulary and the ideas remained a little short.
The jury nevertheless appreciated the proposed route along the north-south axis, which was quite subtle and treated with great finesse.
However, it has serious reservations about the volume and fenestration of the building, and the excessiveness of the corridors in the Darlington wing. The organization of the spaces in plan is clear but this is not reflected in the formal spatial organization; moreover, the "everyday" quality of the spaces is not evident either.
There is a sense, in this project, of a playful collage and quotation game, but one that seems too tied to a media culture rather than an architectural culture. »
