In a world of excess, we need a concept of living that helps bring us back to what is truly important to all of us- each other. True happiness is not found in materialism. Happiness comes from between, the relationships we develop with our family, friends, and neighbors. This gives rise to our one-storey dwelling of an universal design that welcomes everyone- children, adults, seniors, and people with disability. In both its construction and dwelling, it minimizes the use of building and energy resources.
The layout emphasizes on shared space. It features a multi-purpose room attached to several unique concrete pipe rooms. The multi-purpose room is a place of gathering, socializing, and entertaining. Once the exterior movable wall has unfolded, the barrier between the inside world and outside world blurs. This encourages neighbors to come and enjoy the company of the occupants. Come time to rest and relax, the occupants can retreat into the pipe rooms. These rooms which accommodate one or two, feature under-floor storage systems which utilize easy access hydraulic panels.
The design of the house is adaptable in various climates and terrains. It utilizes geothermal heating, a green roof collection of rainwater for non-portable water usage, air filtering plants between pipe rooms to draw in fresh air, and the stack effect to further assist in ventilating and purifying the air of the house. Its simple and modular design allows the house to function as one home or a community of interlocked homes when combined.
