Project number 52374

The interest of this project lies in the clarity, simplicity and general organization of its plan. The architectural parti is powerful, articulated by two large axes that distribute the triangular volumes of the different functions. It marks a clear desire to contrast with the environment and to insert itself by contrast into the urban fabric. It is resolutely at odds with the morphology of the neighborhood.

The concept of the interior street seems hardly justifiable by the secondary services to which it gives access or by the axis of circulation that would be created by the eventual construction of the Université du Québec. On the other hand, the circulation and links between the different functions of the Museum are well studied. The presentation of the old wharf and the Estèbe house is successful, although the proximity of the large semi-cylindrical marquee to the corner of the Estèbe house is regrettable.

The volumetric treatment is rigorous by the very nature of the party. The facades are strongly rhythmic and we note an attempt to integrate the neighborhood through the choice of cladding material and the use of arched openings. The play of low reliefs integrated into certain facades contributes to their animation, but they remain massive and hardly on a pedestrian scale.
