Inspiration
Every day, as Montrealers and visitors move about, the city comes alive and changes. Individuals cross paths, information is sometimes exchanged during meetings, places are discovered or rediscovered... Each emotion, impression, knowledge, or information expressed modifies and nourishes a little more the personality of the city. It is this power of transformation that we wish to illustrate with the VOICE installation. It will make real the power of verbal expression and the possibility of concretely modifying our environment and the perception that others have of it.
The concept
VOICE is an interactive structure allowing the user to modify in real time a giant light sculpture with his own voice, thus illustrating the movement of ideas. To speak, to sing, to shout; in a poetic, spontaneous or even childish way; alone or with others; in all possible and imaginable languages: the voice of the user will modify the environment and thus the experience of the other.
How it works
The light structure will be installed on the roof of the Saint Laurent metro station. With a light and geometric look, it will be composed of thin metal rods and LED strips. A real sculpture of evolving light, VOIX will transform itself according to the sounds produced by the users. The latter will have at their disposal four "trumpets" playing the role of megaphones or transmitters of information towards the sculpture of light. Users and spectators will then see the structure come to life and be personalized by the sounds produced. The tubes will send back to the user his modified voice while changing the light configuration of the sculpture. Day or night, rain or shine, the technology used will allow VOIX to function and its light effects to be visible no matter what.
