Description

The Gardens of Renewal

The main idea is to give industrial pieces a new function in the form of urban elements and furnishings, marked by a structural and mechanical aesthetic, as well as by soft, aesthetic forms, thus giving a second life to objects of industrial archaeology that made up the roof of the Olympic Stadium.

In this way, we offer citizens elements present in the collective memory in the form of transformed objects and spaces in keeping with the vision of a green and resilient Montreal, and Capital of Design. A variety of objects were designed, including seating and street furniture, functional decorative sculptures and shade areas that fit into a green urban landscape. Attention was also paid to the theme of color: a range of tertiary colors inspired by the character of Montreal and its great creators. In this way, we sought an expressive and harmonious chromatic balance that made these gigantic metal components more human and lighter.

The concept is based on a composition of modules that allow for different configurations depending on the installation site. It is thus possible to create complex arrangements in larger spaces, or to use them on their own in other existing contexts.

A second life is given to these oversized, high-capacity elements for reuse as urban objects on a human scale. A new function in a playful aesthetic gives new life to high-quality components and materials. Their recognizable archetypal signature is reminiscent of the stadium's textile covering, while bringing them closer to citizens, enabling acceptance by the community that will enjoy them in this new form for decades to come.
