Sport as a Unifying Element
Our proposal views sport not only as a physical activity, but above all as a universal language capable of creating deep connections between individuals, regardless of their differences. In the context of CEPSUM, we developed the concept of a shared experience framework: a spatial and social structure that promotes encounters, energy flow, and the building of collective memory.
The project is organized around an inclusive path connecting the various components of the site. This guiding thread takes the form of a circular ramp at the building's entrance, a spiral ramp inside the building connecting all floors, and another spiral ramp from the metro, ensuring full accessibility for people with reduced mobility, especially wheelchair users.
For visually impaired individuals, we integrated tactile paving on the ramp surfaces to facilitate tactile guidance. Hearing-impaired users benefit from clear floor markings and precise signage, enabling them to navigate the space visually without needing to ask for directions. For elderly people, who may walk with canes or need physical support, we installed continuous handrails along the entire path to make movement easier and safer.
This approach is based on the principle of invisible accessibility, integrated from the start of the design process, without stigmatizing elements. The space becomes fluid, legible, and sensory, ensuring an intuitive experience for everyone.
In a CEPSUM often perceived as dense and fragmented, our approach brings spatial coherence, removes symbolic barriers, and offers a welcoming environment where everyone can take part in a shared, accessible, and dignified sporting experience.
(From competitor's text)
The proposal adds a canopy, whose functional contribution remains unclear. The spiral ramp is difficult to grasp. Although the text contains some interesting ideas, these are less perceptible in the physical proposal. Positive mention for taking into account several types of disability.
