CEPSUM New Gate System
The proposed redesign of the CEPSUM Stadium's main gate, located on Édouard-Montpetit Boulevard between the Partie Haute-De Stade building and the Western Grandstands, serves as a symbolic and functional enhancement to the stadium's infrastructure. Drawing inspiration from the Université de Montréal's logo, the design transforms the symbolic "U" and "M" forms into a striking architectural gateway. It features three vertical, M-shaped entrances and a central "U"-shaped structure as a visual beacon, elevating the stadium's identity and visibility.
The new gate system centralizes visitor access, streamlining circulation while improving safety, navigation, and first impressions. The main reception area includes a staffed information desk, ticket verification, and event guidance. The façade houses six access doors--three for permanent use and three activated during major events to manage crowd flow.
Once inside, four interior entrances guide fans and staff: Entrance 1 leads to the stadium and commercial areas; Entrance 2 offers partial, controlled access to shops; Entrance 3 is restricted for staff and team management beneath the grandstands; and Entrance 4 connects to the Partie Haute-De Stade building, offering access for athletes and event guests.
Visitors flow through a commercial corridor with kiosks selling food, drinks, merchandise, and fan gear--each installation managed for consistency. A safe, transparent barrier separates this path from the field while maintaining visibility. Beneath the grandstands, essential amenities like restrooms and water stations are integrated into the stadium's perimeter.
Two additional gates manage exit flow. Gate 2, at Édouard-Montpetit and Vincent d'Indy Avenue, features adjustable lanes for various crowd sizes. Gate 3, on Vincent d'Indy Avenue, uses smart ticket scanners for efficient access and exit during large events.
This integrated design enhances security, circulation, and fan experience, while embedding the university's identity in the stadium's architecture.
