Imaginary Gateways of the Latin Quarter

When Montreal's underground scene emerges from the underground, the spectacle of the passageways on Émilie-Gamelin Square unfolds.

The openness to ideas that have circulated along the lines of Montreal's metro system can finally emerge through the main gateway. By digging deeper, ideas align and then intertwine.

Resurfacing, the underground meets the urban landscape. This crossroads fosters encounters, unexpected visits, and the sharing of complementary worlds.

The Berri-de Maisonneuve Intersection:

The flow of city dwellers from the North, South, East, West, above, and below animates and colors the scene. At this crossroads, the gateways invite us to plunge into this vibrant theater of urban life.

De Maisonneuve Boulevard is the gateway for any driver or cyclist coming from the east. It is also where the city meets public transportation.

The Emery-St-Denis intersection: This gateway provides the library with a street-facing entrance. It also offers shelter from the cold and long Montreal winters. The Emery Orangery is a welcoming and warm space during the winter or when the weather is bad.

The St-Denis-Ste-Catherine intersection:

Ste-Catherine Street is the gateway for any driver or cyclist coming from the west. This gateway evokes ideas of height and vast open spaces. It's the urban landscape as seen from the top of a tower.

The UQAM intersection is a hub where each gateway offers a different perspective for those who want to experience the city in all its diversity.
