Description

Route n.f. - A developed land route, more important than a path, located outside a city or connecting one city to another.

Many major cities boast a Latin Quarter: a place of vibrancy, gathering, and knowledge sharing. This district is located in the heart of the Ville-Marie borough, at the junction of the Quartier des Spectacles (Entertainment District), the Gay Village, and the Quartier de la Santé (Health District).

A gateway to downtown, thanks to the presence of the Berri-UQAM metro station and the new bus station at Îlot Voyageur, the Latin Quarter never sleeps. Day and night, it welcomes thousands of visitors, shoppers, people experiencing homelessness, students, and workers who come from near and far to go about their business or simply pass through.

But what is the current influence of the Latin Quarter? Does it have its own distinct identity? If not, what identity do we wish to give it?

The four main directions we propose:

Improving the quality of living environments by increasing the availability of green spaces and safe pedestrian and cycling corridors to foster better-defined and more welcoming connections with adjacent areas. Proposing mixed-use buildings (residential and commercial) where dwellings can accommodate households of diverse profiles.

Protecting and enhancing heritage buildings through the implementation of an architectural integration and implementation plan (PIIA) and a nighttime lighting plan for the area.

Supporting a diversified economy by focusing on entertainment and restaurant offerings through the revitalization of Saint-Denis Street. This would also involve increasing the availability of local services by establishing a cultural centre offering the discovery of different cultures within the former Îlot Voyageur site. Highlighting the fact that Montreal offers an extraordinary array of exotic flavors and artistic experiences that allow us to travel at little cost.

Highlighting the potential of Emilie-Gamelin Square as a multimodal transport hub and relaxation area.
