DEFENSE MECHANISM
The Hochelaga-Maison"neuve region is bordered by the St. Lawrence River and Sherbrooke Street in the south, the Canadian Pacific railway in the west and the Canadian National railway in the east. The immigrant population is increasing in this area. The density of unemployed people is high in the southern parts. There is commercial concentration in certain parts. Since the industrial age, population growth, migration, and separation between urban and rural areas have led to climate change.
Economic crises, environmental pollution, migration to cities and climate change pose threats to living spaces in poor and marginalized communities. . In this case, urban and rural areas must connected to each other. Instead of being opposites, they need to interact. In this way, a defense mechanism against climate change can be provided in cities.
One of the mechanisms against climate change can be urban agriculture. In this activity, which is created by using natural resources, it provides fresh food production, consumption and social integration by including delivery, marketing, service and distribution functions, as well as sustainable activity. Solidarity networks and new business in the city, as in the rural areas. In this way, new business models have emerged while creating a mechanism against climate change. Moreover, considering that touching the soil will be good for people's psychology, there is a possibility that the crime rates will be reduced.
In the designed structure, steel columns were used with the part taken from the cage system, and these framed green areas were limited to the agricultural area and plant growing area in the entrance areas.
It is planned to distribute the products obtained from urban agriculture in the market place and in the exhibition area.
The structure is fragmented. In this way, it can be used by the river, in the park areas, without disturbing the silhouette. At the same time, the structure can be used as a whole or divided into pieces around the Olympic Park (observation area and workshop areas from the beginning of the bridge). It can be designed as two parts.. At the same time, some of the roofs are designed as terraces. In this way, a connection with the river, park and city is provided.
