Parc-en-Ciel
"Big Owe" to "Big Wow"
In support of Montréal Olympic Park's Sustainable Development Action Plan, our Team has proposed an inclusive, accessible Treetop Walkway Loop with an intertwining Zip Coaster to draw visitors to the Olympic Park while offering panoramic views out to the Lawrence River beyond.
Reusing almost all of the dismantled Stadium Roof materials and components, the Treetop Walkway Loop will bring visitors 20 meters above the ground with a serpentine walkway system that includes multiple viewing stations. The Treetop Walkway seeks offer new perspectives and appreciation for the Montréal Olympic Stadium, the Lawrence River, and the wider Montréal neighborhood.
Something for Everyone
The Parc-en-Ciel development will offer inclusive spaces for people of all ages, abilities, and interests. The Treetop Walkway will be fully wheelchair accessible, incorporating mechanical elevators and wide pathways. Additionally, multilingual & tactile braille signage and educational touchpoints will cater to diverse audiences.
School programs will introduce children to the importance of urban ecosystems, while those seeking a peaceful escape can find it above and below the treetop canopies. The Zip Line Roller Coaster rail system will hang down from the elevated walkway structure to provide a thrilling, income-generating ride for young and old alike.
All Day, Year-Round
The walkway will be surfaced with recycled rubber and salvaged PVC Membrane Liners. To accommodate winter conditions, a network of filaments using renewable energy to generate radiant heat will be embedded in the eco-friendly, elastomeric covering. Energy-efficient lighting will be added along the Treetop Walkway and the Zip Line to ensure usability and dramatic effect during the nighttime.
At ground level, additional structures and amenities will include public rest rooms, small kiosks and Urban Agro-Demonstration areas featuring an Aquaponic (Aquaculture+Hydroponics) Pool. Flanked by a vertical Vegetable Garden, plantings will be mounted to stands of repurposed Flying Forks and Liner Cable mesh.
This Parc-en-Ciel development embodies the universal values of circularity, connectivity, accessibility and inclusivity. Its design shows how a climate-friendly response can create unique value and attractive spaces for all walks of life. Ultimately, it seeks to offer a new perspective and appreciation of Montréal's past while inspiring the city towards a brighter, more sustainable future.
