Montreal Olympic Roof Reuse
Enhancing the utilization rate and value of material reusing through diversified utilization of components in terms of structural performance, function, and scale. Respectively refers to: Differentiated use and reflect the structural characteristics of various components in the spatial form; Components not only serve as structural and enclosure elements but also fulfill ecological functions; By repetitively utilizing the same type of components from large frames to small products, corner residues are effectively utilized.
To mitigate the impact of heat waves, extensive areas of heat-absorbing hard pavement, such as underutilized parking lots found around communities, industrial zones, shopping malls, and other areas, are covered with highly reflective materials and three-dimensional greenery to regulate the microclimate within the community. The utilization of modular assembly reduces construction timeframes, engineering emissions, and resource consumption. Employing flexible passive strategies allows for adaptation to varying weather conditions throughout the year while providing spaces for diverse activities and minimizing carbon emissions over the entire life cycle. Scattered throughout the community are modular units and assemblies that serve as facilities and shelters for soft and active mobility transportation.
The overhead community garden and urban agriculture aim to address food insecurity and contaminated soil, while also serving as a three-dimensional community activity space. The main focus is on planting activities, complemented by diverse daily activities that foster connections among residents within and between communities. This social scene aims to cater to various groups such as singles, young people, and immigrants. By compound utilizing parking lots and integrating upper and lower spaces, convenient pathways are created for easy access. Additionally, the incorporation of high towers and overhead bridges spanning tracks and driveways establishes visual lines of sight and paths connecting the community with the river.
Develop an integrated structure comprising modular components and planting systems that can be easily productized. These furniture-like planting facilities serve multiple purposes, offering convenience for both socializing among residents and engaging in planting activities. The structure replicates the architectural and spatial recollections of the Montréal Olympic Stadium and the exterior installations from the Montreal Olympic Games, thereby inheriting the essence of the 1976 Olympic Games. The cluster of parking lots can function as a cohesive community unit, seamlessly blending into the urban fabric while introducing a novel and enriched space.
