REGENERATE its cultural resonance

REGENERATE; CULTURE keywords: energy, vitality
To re-establish or re-vitalize something that existed before, on a new and improved basis
RESTORE; HISTORY keywords: style, form
To bring back its former state/ shape, to repair, to recover
Restoration of historic sites/heritage - It is important to consider to which condition/state those historical sites should be restored (i.e. as a "ruin" or as functional architecture). Possible uses of these historic structures:
1) Restoration as a museum/exhibition space.
2)Restoration to a state where they could be used for activities such as theatre performances or children's play area.
3)To stabilize them to the point where they could function as historical monuments or ornament gardens built around them.
RENEW; NATURE keywords: freshness, vigor, recreate, re-establish
To renew the forest while preserving its character and developing aspects which will be needed in the future.
Renewal of devastated areas by making the best use of its indigenous vitality - It is important to have clear objectives:
1) To promote sustainability
2) To increase endurance
3) To increase soil/land vitality
4) To enhance the capacity for self-regeneration
5) To improve safety in the event of a natural disaster and forest fire
SUSTAINABLE FOREST
To enhance the forest's wellbeing, we propose:
* Increasing biological diversity
* Multi generation forest
* Aim for mixed forest
* Create stands of varying density
* Soil remediation
Activities
Moving from east to west along the shoreline, the character of activity changes from social to individual The extension of Black Rock Beach along the Halterm Container Pier will allow the burden of activity to concentrate on the east side of the park around the Lower Parking Lot. In other words, it will allow other parts of the shore to enjoy greater peace. The long and wide southern shoreline, with a 180degree view of the ocean, affords visitors ample personal space. An even higher degree of privacy is available on the west coast along Arm Road, where it is possible to be physically isolated.
Programmed cultural and ecological activities are to be implemented for park users. The historical fortifications offer a potential site for a heritage museum and/or memorial garden. For those who wish to know more about the heritage located in the park, information will be available in the museum. The revitalized Black Rock Beach may provide a venue for performances by the Shakespeare by the Sea.
Forming a Consensus
It is extremely important to create a system through which the citizens of Halifax and park users can better understand the character of the park, and forge a consensus in the community about what should be done in the park. There have been many proposals from professionals about enhancing the forest's sustainability, however little has been accomplished to date. In general, users do not wish to lose those aspects of the park which give them pleasure. This has led to short-term decision-making coloured by emotion. Though people's "emotion" in relation to the park is potentially an important asset, we need to build on a foundation of knowledge, understanding, and the ability to act. To direct a realizable management plan, citizens need to: learn a lot, think a lot, talk a lot, take action, and reflect.
