- urban axis through site w/ amenities = connecting city to water through park // laying out a series of dancing axis of grasslands/low level foliage, mixed hardwoods, pathways, picnic areas, and waterworks allows for canyon like experience through undulating linear spaces from the city fabric to the harbor waterfront // entry signage will be a extensive slate wall that is fractured into several smaller walls sprawled through the entrance to the park // the walls will be etched w/ the history and maps of point pleasant park
- energy of site flows from the water to the north // the city is empowered and the park is activated when the old energy posture of the batteries defensive positions expecting to receive the (-) energy from waterfront is transformed into a public venue and allows the greater potential (+) energy to flow into site freely
- the existing soils type/depth limits the productive growth of hardy hardwoods w/ extensive/strong root systems // the urban axis will be a modification to the soils + topography by scraping clean into slate bedrock for material gain and usage through the park // incised voids will be water vessels and the soils from atop the bedrock is folded into adjacent ground planes to promotme older/hardy plant growth (oaks/maples) therefore more color + energy = dynamic + sustainable
//soils to be imported via harbor container yard to supplement this modification // future tree loss will rejuvenate existing soils via wood chips folded into soils to improve over 2/3 years // slate gathered will be used for future paths, wall and park amenities
- implement a water treatment plant + pump station adjacent to cargo container yard that takes waters
fom the harbor, desalinates + filters, and cyclically feeds the park from the upper urban side to the lower harbor // the waters are intended to be utilized for the amenities of streams, reflection pools, swimming areas, washrooms and drinking needs // a greywater recovery system could also supplement this system to expedite and maintain the healthy plant growth for decades to come
- revised upper parking lot w/ foliage screening at entry sequence and adjacent to water plant // additional picnic area w/ existing summerhouse activates this area that was once an eye sore and is supplemented w/ a bathhours pavilion for black rock beach
- footpaths regained from existing roadways and turned into undulating smaller natural paths w/ more opportunities for hiking through denser forests // existing roadways not made from crushed slate will be transformed into natural roadways promoting growth of groundcover over pathways
- furniture + seating will become more natural, not commercial, giving a greater sense of being immersed in a natural setting // built into the earth w/ acquired materials from the site + supplemented w/ more permanent material not requiring maintenance (painting, etc.) // trash and fire pits to be suppressed into the ground will open up the natural landscape from visual interruptions // play a scale shift from the individual bench to the embedded seating areas where small depressions create a more intimate feeling (Hype Arc)
