Almost paradise
The project borrows and manipulates the boardwalk – an element that traditionally separates human activity from the "natural" processes of landscapes. The boardwalk folds up to expose its underbelly and to form walls that mediate your experience of adjacent spaces. The basic organization of concentric donuts creates a series of inner sanctums or multiple paradises. However, these spaces are woven together to create continuous yet indistinct whole. You are never fully inside nor ever fully outside of paradise. Further, "paradise' and "the real world" are constructed from identical materials, with the interior realm coated in layer of VOC free green turf paint. Normally reserved for refreshing tired lawns, the green color is the symbol of healthfulness in nature. It will be applied to all materials, gravel, boardwalk and trees to create a reality that appears artificial but is ultimately comprised of real materials. The green will fade over time and eventually all that will remain will be the scattered remnants protected by the boardwalk, rendering the two spaces virtually identical.
