The whirling dervish
In many cultures, life itself is divided into two essential parts, the physical and the ephemeral. To attain a certain paradise on earth, these two elements must balance. The whirling dervish project brings together these halves: the physicality of the garden with the ephemeral spinning of the dervish, who whirls to be released from the ego achieving oneness with his surroundings and as such, ''paradise''.
Symbolized by a wreath of flowers represented by floating spheres, the dervish whirls on the surface of a reflective pool in a secluded forested area. Underneath the surface of the pool is the mechanical arm and motor or pump which power the dervish. The long arm rotates around a central axis, while a smaller arm, fixed to the end of the larger will also turn, leaving the impression of an orbiting planet around a central point.
