Views of a secret
"We can only dream of Paradise."
What is Paradise?
We have many given definitions, many supposed ones and two certain conclusions. Paradise cannot be explained but only personally interpreted as a symbol. Human beings have been excluded from it, they don't belong to Paradise anymore.
Paradise is a personal idea of Heaven, a hidden secret in a hidden and secret place. Paradise is the absence of mankind, now external observer/dreamer.
A "place" in which reality, as a web of possibilities, has no meaning.
A "place" we can only dream about.
"Views of a Secret" is the symbolic representation of the quest for a secret to be revealed to oneself. The labyrinth is a research journey: it embeds the many possible answers and stimulates everyone to give personal answer. As in color theory, Purple leads to concentration, Green creates the right mood.
Gates give the journey a dimension: creating an "inside" and an "outside", a "before" and an "after". Water is the symbol of the Sky, one of the many "wheres" of Heaven: it's untouchable, mankind do not belong there.
Dump is the Earth, "third and a half landscape": if Gilles Clement's "third landscape" is a place forgotten from men, the "third and a half landscape" is a place in which men have been forgotten. "And you? ... You are here ... Are you here?" painting is the meaning of the garden. It's an experience inside of oneself, the possibility of a reflection transcending the shape and accompanying us "beyond" - in time and space - the purely physical approach to the garden itself.
The timings and ways in which the visitor will experience the feeling of a solution, a meaning of the garden considered as a whole, will depend on the visitor himself, on his degree of permeability to the symbolic language of the garden.
It's an experience in which we have the right to search for no answer at all.
