Le banc - the swarm
Based on the theme 2010 'Paradise', this Garden installation shall show the circle of Life, where we are coming from, who we are and where we are going to.
The ocean is the ancient first garden where we all belong to!
This installation is also inspired by the novel 'The Swarm' written by Frank Schatzing, which shows a lot about the fragile balance of the ocean. Besides to the superior planification idea, the structure of the garden shall illustrate the theme "Paradise" as well.
There are 3 Garden areas: open sea, coral reef, sea bed
1. In the open sea, we face the dynamic structure of a swarm, a maelstrom, which is the driving force that keeps the element water in motion.
2. Coral reefs pictured by shell limestone walls got an own fragile flora and fauna. They are on their own level and are much different in form and colour to the sea bed. This highly sensitive system can be damaged through pollution pictured by barrels, which are "hidden" behind a reef.
3. The pathways are made from sand to symbolise the sea bed. Furthermore the plants of the sea bed are more reserved, low and in their colour non comparable to the plants of the reefs.
All areas of the garden share thematically and constructional one room, one 'paradise' garden.
Finally the visitor shall enjoy the garden as a lonesome peaceful oasis and feels himself set on a day on the beach. He can also walk on the traces of Jaques Cousteau and Captain Nemo and discover a foreign but familiar world underneath the sea and gets to the knowledge that we have to protect Our 'Paradise'.
