Renewing the typology of the porte cochere, this project is articulated around an exterior staircase, a true urban passageway crossing the entire lot, from Place-Royale to Côte de la Montagne. This exterior space directs the organization of the interior spaces. The facades overlooking Place-Royale are largely fenestrated at street level, which favours the activity of the commercial premises located there. The interpretation center, gathered around a hall that goes through all its floors, projects footbridges over the urban passage and highlights the entire history of Place-Royale, stratum by stratum.

The jury appreciated this project for the harmony of its insertion as well as its dialogue with history. The result is a project that plays well its role as an accompaniment to the environment while promoting historical discovery through its well urbanized exterior staircase/passageway.
The jury saw this as an authentic response to the complexity of the problem, while respecting their concept of a window on history, in a style that guarantees a certain durability. The jury appreciated the constant concern for quality in both plan and elevation.
However, the jury questions the relevance of the scale and the feasibility of certain elements: the remarks below must be taken into consideration by the winner as indicated in the competition rules.
The jury hopes that code compliance, particularly with respect to the vault exits, the radiation hazard of the skylight and the exterior passageway will not weaken the proposed interpretive concept.
