Description

Visualizing the Viaducts

The Viaducts are repurposed as a new Greenway linking the Stadium-Chinatown SkyTrain to the Eastern Core and a new pocket of mixed use development around a new High Speed Rail Terminal located at Pacific Central Station.

A variety of infill between the two viaducts and interchanges with SkyTrain and Streetcars ensure frequent occupation and the viaducts become a seam which reunites currently disconnected areas, both East/West and North/South.

Reconnecting the Waterfront to an Inhabited Seam

The Viaducts become a new Greenway linking the Stadium-Chinatown SkyTrain towards the Eastern Core and a new pocket of mixed use development around a new High Speed Rail Terminal located at Pacific Central Station.

Walkability and occupation are attained by utilizing the viaducts strategic position between existing well used facilities: The Seawall and Andy Livingstone Park. Rather than acting as a barrier of movement between the two, the repurposed viaduct becomes the seam which reunites the two. The Viaduct/Greenway becomes a channel with convenient connections to the SkyTrain and a new Streetcar stop on Quebec Street.

A variety of infill between the two viaducts accommodates high and medium rise apartments towards the Stadia where height restrictions and existing development make this viable, with additional uses such as recreation/sports courts, gallery/exhibition spaces or retail occupying the rest of the viaduct, affording spectacular views of False Creek to the South and the Mountains to the North.
