We envision the viaducts as a place with contrasting environments, creating spaces in dialogue with one another. Using the structure of a rainforest, the area is dissected into different levels: a tower/ pavilion as the Emergent, a highline as the Canopy, a community garden as the Understory, and a commercial and public performance space as the Forest Floor. We re-visualize the viaducts as the core of a new vibrant community.

We re-visualize the viaducts as the core of a new vibrant community.
Having served as an integral part of the transportation system in our Downtown core, the Georgia and Dunsmuir Viaducts are a part of Vancouver s history and cultural heritage. Although there have been plans and proposals made to replace the viaducts as a whole, we believe that the viaducts should be kept as a part of our downtown core. Rather than tearing down the viaducts, we could modify its usage, structure, and integrate it into a part of rebuilding the Northeast False Creek community. We could re-visualize the viaducts as a part of our future, reconnecting the local community with the city of Vancouver to create a vibrant, green and sustainable environment that Vancouver envisions.
Traffic Patterns
Although the viaducts are essential to our transportation system, many residents within the local community complain about the noise levels produced from the high volumes of traffic on viaducts every day. As large amounts of traffic are redirected on to the viaducts, traffic flow slows clown considerably during the daytime.
On the other hand, some streets under the viaduct are under-utilized, especially Expo Boulevard (Expo). It has three fanes of one way traffic as a connector from Prior Street through Chinatown, Yaletown, and Northeast False Creek with a forth fane for Street parking. Not only does the idea resolve existing issues, but it also opens up new opportunities for development in the nearby areas. Hence we propose that traffic from Prior Street and Main Street could be spread out between Dunsmuir and Expo. While Dunsmuir would be used for public transportation bike lanes and pedestrians, Expo would be expanded into four lanes and used for regular traffic. On the other hand, the Georgia Viaduct (Georgia) will be kept as a main part of downtown's transportation system.
