Spiraling towards its center, the warming hut "Windup" provides a cairn shelter that protects against the cold and wind of the plain. The design is firstly inspired by the natural phenomena of "frost flowers", which are thin layers of ice curling around long-stemmed plants in autumn or early winter. Secondly by the aesthetic of woodpiles, that suggest strength and warmth through its density, color and material surface.
"Windup" translates these systems into a lightweight construction made from thin steel bars and a facade consisting of wooden disks in different sizes and thickness.
The shape of the pavillon is created through two overlaying spirals. One flat spiral, which is winding inwards, represents the skating fines as well as the warming gesture and another vertical spiral, which reaches outwards to attract the visitors.
