Description

Zero E House is a two bedroom 110 m2 net zero energy Passivhaus Standard family house. It is based on three typological urban morphologies based around the 'Green Densification' of the existing historic urban grid. The small ground floor footprint with in?built car port allows an individual prototype to be located at the bottom of a garden replacing existing garages typically found in Vancouver neighbourhoods such as Richmond or on vacant lots within the existing urban fabric. The modular design can also be configured as a mews?type row house to produce a new type of Urban Neighbourhood that maintains the existing historic urban grain of the city. The form of the prototype is an abstraction of the historic 'Vancouver House' with a large prominent roof and modulated exterior envelope. It contains generous, light?filled living spaces on the ground and first floors giving access to enclosed private external areas. The shell is constructed from Cross Laminated Timber manufactured locally with a super?insulated envelope designed to meet Passivhaus standards for ultra low energy buildings. It uses both active and passive environmental technologies to achieve net zero energy use. The external 'rainscreen' skin has been designed to be interchangeable to suit contexts, legislation and material availability. All major materials and components can be sourced locally within 100 miles of Vancouver City centre.
