A "WOOD BRICKS" house is proposed for the 100 MILE HOUSE single family dwelling. Sustainability, as the contest implies by aiming a minimal environmental impact and carbon footprint caused by transportation, is a mayor issue, therefore all the design is focused on the minimum environmental impacts. The "wood bricks" are made out of residues generated by the lumber industry. These "bricks" are put together by mechanical means and with very little steel joints or anchors. Besides the wood "bricks bricks" almost all the materials and products used in the house are wood. Some concrete and stone are used and the appliances and fixtures are made of diverse types of materials. With efficient use of every square foot this house is flooded with daylight all year long (lowering the energy use) and spacious living areas. Another sustainability features are the rain water harvesting, small footprint (building two stories) and green roof which allows permeability of storm water and the reduction of the heat island effect, natural ventilation, shades for summer and sunshine in the house during winter.
