Description

Nature en spectacle proposes a landscape, a landscape experience, and the urban landscape as a celebration; it is a green lung in the heart of the Quartier des spectacles and a place of climatic comfort; it is a playful meeting place on the bangs of existing developments and programmed animation.
Re-imagining the Promenade des artistes

The development of lot 066 is first of all an opportunity to reflect on the monolithic identity of the Quartier des spectacles and to rethink the Promenade des Artistes. It is an opportunity to introduce a new landscape, and to affirm the place of nature in the city and of a qualified biodiversity all along the northern collar of Place des Arts. It is an opportunity to deconstruct the strong minerality of the existing landscaping and redevelop some of the barren patches of lawn. We believe that the borough and the Quartier des spectacles must make room for nature - that nature must be put on show - and that the city must favour strategies for urban comfort and the ecological services that the introduction of new plant density brings.
The context plan outlines a renewed vision for the North Collar, including the permanent closure of de Maisonneuve Boulevard and the re-routing of traffic onto President Kennedy. To encourage the deployment of festivals, the bicycle path is also diverted along the same axis, south of the existing tree line, transformed into linear ditches and rain gardens.

Structure of the footbridge
The bridge is conceived as a refined and memorable design object. Its design aims at an economy of means and materials for an optimal structural performance. A framework of steel columns on screwed piles supports two curved tubulars that wind under the organic form of the footbridge. The location is strategically north of the subway tunnel. Cross beams support a grating made of FRP (Fiberglass Reinforced Plastic), a composite material with structural properties comparable to metals. This inert material and the steel allow the application of the distinctive yellow color. A 2.0 meter wide strip of stained wood is interspersed along the axis of the walkway. This central and continuous surface offers the warmth of a natural material and a universally accessible surface for travel.
