Inspiration: collective creativity and movement
WAVES is a musical structure allowing the public to collectively create musical and visual compositions. This project is based on the notions of curiosity, participation, movement and harmony. If this installation offers an individual freedom of creation, each creation will be unique since it will be based on the relations and the games which could develop between the participants.
The concept
WAVES is a structure that allows users to create and modulate sounds through their body movements. The modulations of the sounds thus created will themselves influence the visual landscape of the public space. The participants will be connected to each other in a large collective work, playful to experiment, but also to observe and listen.
How it works
On the snow-covered granite floor of Émilie-Gamelin Park, participants will be invited to take their place in the center of one of twelve individual structures in the form of luminescent semi-circles. These zones will allow users to interact with the installation: the intensity, speed and styles of movement of their arms and upper body will give rise to different rhythms and sounds. The choice of whether or not to take into account the movements, and thus the creations of the other participants, will also modulate the collective musical harmony.
The architectural projections will react to the sounds created in order to complete the installation by covering the towers of the Hôtel Gouverneur and Place Dupuis. They will also cover the user zone to illustrate the links between them. Melvin Charney's work will also be illuminated in the project's colors.
