Inspiration
The end of the year is a time for questioning, good resolutions and other holiday reveries. The ARCHES project is based on listening and sharing, reflection and hope. Evolving, the installation will unfold in two times: before and after the new year, as a metaphor of the progression of time towards this new year.
The concept
ARCHES is a light and sound installation, immersive and progressive, articulated around listening and sharing. It represents a passage through the city, through time (towards the new year, towards our own future). Participants will have the opportunity to pass under these arches to hear advice, proverbs, philosophical or spiritual reflections (in the manner of fortune cookies). This journey will lead them, if they wish, to a central structure ready to receive their voice. Each person will then be able to formulate one or several wishes, amplified by the structure and symbolically launched towards the sky.
How it works
Eight arches will punctuate the Place des Festivals, as a path to the central structure. Before the New Year, the installation will benefit from the existing lighting of the Place. The lighting will appear for the new year. At the stroke of midnight the installation will come to life and broadcast a sound and light show. For the rest of the year, the path will progressively light up following the movement of the participants towards the central structure, thus illustrating the passage of time. Architectural projections on the west side of the building will also complete the installations. The lighting of the central structure will react to sound modulations, giving the impression of a dynamic structure reacting to the wishes of the users. If the installation is not in use, then a flickering melody will be played through the structure; each sound being associated with a tube of LEDs illuminating on one of the edges.

The interactivity of the concept has some interest but the form of the elements is questioned by the members of the jury. The aesthetics of the concept is difficult to justify and does not fit in well with the Place des Festivals.
