The team bets for a maximum optimization of the architectural places. It shows an avowed opportunism in the face of the urban and historical framework. However, this desire is accompanied by precise objectives: economy and simplicity of construction and operation, functional, security and climatic efficiency of the archival machine, enhancement of public spaces that will respect the existing places and, finally, a balanced and sensitive insertion of the new building into the existing buildings and the surrounding urban setting.
The empty space of the inner courtyard is fully invested in such a way that the new building is set back from the streets and the existing buildings. The horizontal alignments defined by the bands and cornices of the existing buildings are respected, although the new building is planned to be raised. Architectural references to the surrounding buildings are numerous: tripartite vertical organization of the facades including a base, a shaft and a crown. The latter would be a glazed and ventilated steel structure at the top, covered by a curved metal roof limiting snow accumulation, softening and dynamizing the positioning and relative height of the new construction.
