Description

The intention of this group was not to confuse the multidisciplinary nature of architecture with the image of an architecture displayed through the "transgression of borderlines". This transgression is paralyzed without a mediating figure.

Architects and dancers initially attempted to speak a common language. The project team, while noticing that this attempt was not successful, suggests that the dubious and intermediary voice of "the shadow-trader" should begin to give form to the act of collaboration. The intentions of the project radically shifted with the discovery that collaboration entails a form of bartering; a transaction of relative (and in this case, fictional) exchange. In the shared and measurable space of dance and architecture, there was the discovery of the incommensurably challenge space of the shadow.

The pavilion is considered as the product of both a literal and allegorical exchange between dancer and architects. The dancer's shadow is systematically transformed through the media of drawing and collage into an irreducible measure to be used in the construing and construction of this particular pavilion. The pavilion becomes neither vessel for the display of architecture nor architectural display itself, but more the physical manifestation of a transgressive exchange.

The pavilion is to be hung from rafters of the Arsenale by a single cable. The pavilion moves in relation to the relative weight of each participant.
