Description

The pavilion is illuminated by three types of light: Venetian light, Canadian light, and the modern light of the computer terminal, Phosphene light. The drawings show the means by which each type of light enters the pavilion. A collaboration between architectural design and the written word, Light Assemblage is a metaphoric structure with a possible physical realization. It derives impetus from the emigration of materials and the migration of poetic histories.

It is not widely known that the rich maple planks that formed the floorboards of Cabbagetown warehouses have, after decades, aged in such a way that renders them perfect for the constructions of violins. The wood is highly prized and the resulting instruments have a darkly lyric voice. The conjunction of East Toronto Storehouse with the art of Stradivarius is echoed by the relocation of the last salvaged planks into the floor of the Venetian Pavilion.

The drawings also operate as a two-dimensional hypertext with icons linking structural elements and text descriptions.
