The Center for Basque Adventure in America proposes the narrative of the Basque fisherman who came to America to fish for whales; that of a nomad who lives from one shore to another (from the Basque Country to Basque Island) carrying with him his memory, his knowledge and his roots. From this narration develops the generating theme of our project; that is to say the expression of the nomad who inscribes his story on the site, the building becoming the analogy of his anchoring to the site.
This theme impregnates our project with multiple elements of memory, those of the nomad and the places that shape his activities. The architectural expression of the project establishes the relationship between nomadism (displacement) and sedentarism (anchoring), while proposing an architecture that is primarily reminiscent of a maritime typology, whose materials refer to analogical connections to the theme of the center of the Basque adventure in America.
The spectator will be led to go through the building in a sinuous way and along the way will be set up the different mechanisms of vision and memory showing the superposition of the three objects of desire. The Basque Country, the Basque Island, the river. The building proposes a persistent form (simple, curved, easily recognizable and very expressive) in people's memory, which will have the effect of creating a dynamic and original building that by its architectural language evoking maritime architecture, will play its motivating role for the Trois-Pistoles region. This building will encourage dialogue between visitors and guests and will be a place of exchange between the Basque Country and Quebec.
