Reflections
A series of viewing stations are set within a pattern of circular pools of water, referring back to historical gardens of paradise - while signalling the way towards a more intense and reflective relationship with the natural world. Each viewer must find their own route to their place of contemplation. Chairs and platforms, as displaced manmade objects, resonate with the surroundings and enable manipulation of the viewing experience, bringing nature in a disturbingly close focus. The pool of water reflects the sky and trees, recalling the dramatic watery landscapes of Canada and Scotland. Translucent screens divide and connect. The boundaries between solid and liquid, natural and artificial become blurred, bringing assumptions of performance into doubt. The opportunity of wonder, contemplation and slow reflection brings us full circle to the possibility that our lost relationship with paradise may be rediscovered.
