‘'Sustain, Enrich, Reuse''
Northern Ontario School Of Architecture - Adaptive Reuse:
The primary design goal for this proposed project focuses on the reuse and renovation of two existing buildings in Sudbury, Ontario, Canada for the Northern Ontario School of Architecture. The project involves not only the reuse of existing buildings for a new purpose, but also includes the recycling of existing materials for use in the proposed building renovations. Two additional important guiding principles that this project was designed to incorporate include innovative sustainable design technologies, and the enrichment of the downtown area of Sudbury.
Guiding Design Principles:
‘'Sustain''
1. To design using innovative sustainable design technologies and strategies that will help reduce negative building impact on the environment, and will aid in the city's vision to sustain downtown Sudbury.
‘'Enrich''
2. To provide a welcoming link between the proposed site and the surrounding context of the city.
3. To create a natural environment that is unique, compelling, and attractive, while still allowing it to be a part of the city and remaining sensitive to its surroundings.
4. To improve downtown Sudbury in phases of one, five, and ten years that will eventually involve the creation of new buildings on existing lots within the downtown limits, that will help enrich and strengthen the community rather than spread out and separate.
5. To integrate natural features in the design, and to design not only the buildings but also the landscape that frames them.

6. To sustain the vibrant downtown area of Sudbury and preserve its history by renovating existing buildings and reusing existing materials whenever possible.
